Chicago Bears (3-2) – Carolina Panthers (1-4): 36-10
Interesting meeting, if not glamorous, this Sunday evening between the Bears and the Panthers. The latter have regained strength since the relegation of Bryce Young to the bench, while we are scrutinizing the progress of draft number 1 Caleb Williams among the former.
In a one-sided match, the Bears dominated the visitors head and shoulders. On both sides of the ball, Chicago was attractive.
Best in attack
For perhaps the first time this season, Caleb Williams (20/29, 304 yards, 2 touchdowns) seemed in harmony with his receivers. The fault may be almost non-existent pressure from the Panthers. The number 1 in the draft was able to ventilate towards his numerous targets (6 receivers with multiple receptions).
The highlight of this offensive orgy, DJ Moore was lethal: 5 receptions, 105 yards, 2 touchdowns. If it is a downside on offense, the ground game could be scored: 3.3 yards per carry. The 3 touchdowns (1 for D'Andre Swift, 2 for Roschon Johnson) keep up appearances.
Best in defense
With the exception of a touchdown conceded on the second drive of the game, the copy is almost perfect for Matt Eberflus' defense. Chicago forced 4 punts and caused 6 turnovers (2 fumbles, 2 missed fourth attempts, 1 interception and 1 missed field goal). The Bears also sacked the opposing pitcher four times. Andy Dalton (18/28, 136 yards, 1 interception), harassed all evening, is also not helped by a distressing cast of receivers (Jalen Coker, 68 yards, his best receiver).
Ultimatelyit's a clear victory for the Bears. And beating weak teams is already a first step in the evolution of a team.
The Bears have the opportunity to continue their rise against the doubting Jaguars next weekend, while the Panthers will have their work cut out for them in a divisional duel against the Falcons.
