Bears – Lions (30-31): Justin Fields can’t do everything

Chicago Bears (3-7) – Detroit Lions (3-6): 30-31

Justin Fields (12/20, 167 yards, 2TD, 1INT; 13 carries, 147 yards, 2TD) may have it bad… While the quarterback multiplied his efforts to win his team, he saw his teammate and missed kicker the extrapoint a few minutes from the end. Justin Fields had just scored a touchdown on a 67-yard run to give the Bears the lead.

Behind, the Lions played perfectly on attack, going back almost 90 yards to register the touchdown of the equalizer by Jamaal Williams (16 races, 59 yards, 1 TD). This time, Detroit pulls off the conversion on foot and takes the lead 31-30.

The two remaining minutes will not be enough for Fields, under pressure then tackled on 4th, to get the points of victory.

On equal terms

Perfect equality (10-10) between the Bears and the Lions when returning to the locker room. Whether in yards or time of possession, the two teams were almost equal in this first act.

After a field goal on each side, it was the Lions who scored the first touchdown of the game. By alternating short passes and runs, visitors manage to move the chains without worry. 15 actions and 7 minutes of possession later, Jared Goff (19/26, 239 yards, 1TD) finds Brock Wright on a 4&goal.

Chicago takes its time to come back to the score with a touchdown 12 seconds from halftime (10-10). It is Justin Fields who is at the conclusion on a 3rd attempt. The quarterback talks about his footwork to avoid a sack and cross the goal line.

Fields passes the second

It is therefore in the second half that the Bears will make the difference, especially in attack. Fields begins this second act as he finished the first with a touchdown (17-10). This time, the quarterback chained the passes and found Cole Kmet in the end zone.

Bis repeated on the following series where the Bears smuggler feigned the opposing defense on a play action and found his tight end absolutely alone in the back of the field. Kmet only has to run a few yards to register his second touchdown (24-10).

The Lions revived at the start of the last quarter. While Jared Goff thinks he is intercepted, the action is canceled for a fault (unobvious) of the defense of the Bears. Behind, just a race to DeAndre Swift to find the end zone for the touchdown (24-17).

The match switches to the next drive when Fields looks for Kmet again but under pressure presses his throw and doses it badly. The player is then intercepted and sees Jeff Okudah go up 21 yards for the touchdown from 24 to 24. The Bears have conceded 14 points in the space of two minutes…

But the young Bears quarterback has the merit of showing his mentality. On the following series, he sees the breach in the defense and takes to his heels to register a superb touchdown from over 60 yards, thus restoring the advantage to his people (30-24, extra point missed).

And then Detroit goes back in front with Williams’ touchdown. A point of difference that the Bears fail to fill and which signs their defeat.
