Spring cleaning has begun in Chicago.
The Bears parted ways with two veteran players this Thursday. Eddie Jackson (S) and Cody Whitehaire (G) now find themselves free agents on the transfer market.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, this operation allows the franchise to free up $21.5 million in payroll. She now has a margin of $86 million under the salary cap for free agency. It is the third team in the NFL with the greatest financial margin.
As a reminder, free agency will begin on March 13. The Bears also have the first pick in the draft this year, as well as the ninth pick.
Elected to the All-Pro first team in 2018, in his second season in the NFL, Jackson started in each of the hundred games he played with the Bears. In decline last year, he accumulated an interception and 37 tackles in 12 games.
For his part, Whitehair lost his starting place last year. Selected a year before Eddie Jackson in the draft, he started every game played with Chicago between 2016 and 2022. He was selected for the Pro Bowl in 2018.
