Azeez Al-Shaair (Texans) suspended 3 games

This Sunday, Azeez Al-Shaair's tackle on Trevor Lawrence sent chills down the spines of many spectators. Despite the player's lengthy apology, the NFL was quick to crack down. In addition to being ejected from Sunday's game, the Texans linebacker is immediately suspended for three games, without receiving salary. He is accused of having repeatedly violated the league's rules of safety and good conduct.

It was Jon Runyan, vice president of football operations, who issued the suspension. A press release from the league reveals the content of the letter sent to the player:

“During your game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, you were involved in an action that the league considers unacceptable and a serious violation of the rules of the game. You started with your forearm and helmet and gave a violent blow to your opponent's head/neck area when you had time and space to avoid such contact. Afterward, you got into a fight, which you escalated by pulling an opponent to the ground by his helmet. You then took off your helmet and fought with your opponent again. Your continued disregard of NFL rules endangers your health and safety and that of your opponents and will not be tolerated. »

Azeez Al-Shaair, customary of the fact

If the NFL's suspension is so firm and immediate, it is because the linebacker has already stood out for similar acts. Choking on Tom Brady in 2022, late tackles on Trevor Lawrence, Tony Pollard and Caleb Williams this season… On this last action, Al-Shaair also stood out in delivering a violent punch to Roschon Johnson seconds after his tackle. He miraculously escaped without sanction, apart from a fine of $11,000 imposed after the match.
