Fired at the beginning of January 2024 by the Falcons, Arthur Smith will resume duties as offensive coordinator with the Steelers.
First victim of Black Monday, Arthur Smith is back. The former Falcons coach is expected to head to Pittsburgh shortly to take charge of the Steelers offense, according to information from Tom Pelissero, confirmed by ESPN.
He becomes offensive coordinator again, a role he had experienced during the 2019 and 2020 seasons with the Titans. For three years in Atlanta, his results had not changed an inch: 7 victories and 10 defeats each season. In total, that makes 21 successes for 30 losses.
The Steelers, an attack in full doubt
Smith will have his work cut out for him in Pittsburgh. He takes over from a very disappointing Matt Canada, sacked in the middle of the season for his poor results. For his part, the years spent with the Falcons were not kind either. Not helped by his quarterbacks, Smith increased the number of starters, without ever finding the recipe to make his attack work.
Among the Steelers, his first question should naturally focus on Kenny Pickett. The young player has not convinced and his starting place could be threatened. It remains to be seen if, this time, Arthur Smith will manage to find the answer.
