Anthony Richardson (Colts) out for the rest of the season

Anthony Richardson will not play again in 2023. And the source is more than direct: it is Jim Irsay who announced himself on Twitter that his quarterback will have to have surgery.

“After consultation with our medical staff, Anthony and his loved ones, it has been determined that he will have surgery to repair his shoulder, which will end his season,” explains the Colts owner. “Anthony is a competitor, and we know how difficult and disappointing this is for him and our team.

We collected several medical opinions and concluded that this is the best thing to do for his long-term health. »

Richardson suffers from an acromioclavicular sprain.

Gardner Minshew has free reign

Fourth overall choice in the last Draft, Anthony Richardson ends the season with only four short games on the clock. He threw 3 touchdowns to just one interception, adding 4 rushing touchdowns to boot.

At times, he showed impressive physical qualities. But also great fragility. In his first match, he did not finish the match due to a knee injury. It was then a concussion that deprived him of the end of the Week 2 match as well as the following match. Finally, it was his shoulder that was injured in Week 5, ending his season.

Probably traumatized by the early retirement of Andrew Luck, the Colts and Irsay therefore did not take the slightest risk with the short-term health of their new nugget.

Richardson’s regular replacement since the start of the season, Gardner Minshew therefore has a chance to show himself in the months to come. So far, he has thrown 3 touchdowns and 3 interceptions in 2 1/2 games. The Colts lost heavily last Sunday against the Jaguars.
