Fourth pick in the 2020 draft, Andrew Thomas (OT) was injured during the third quarter of the Giants' loss against the Bengals. Although he played all 79 offensive snaps in the game, there were big doubts about the condition of his foot coming out of the game. As of Monday, there was talk of obtaining several medical opinions, including that of Dr. Robert Anderson (Packers doctor), an expert in orthopedic foot surgery. Fears which are confirmed today. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL MediaAndrew Thomas has just undergone successful surgery for a Lisfranc fracture (foot).
The recovery time is estimated at several months, and the player is not expected to play again this season. It's a big loss for the Giants offensive line, one of the most effective in the league. Thomas is indeed one of the leaders of this group, and he has so far played 100% of the offensive snaps in 2024.
Andrew Thomas, talented but injury prone
Last season, Thomas already missed seven games with a hamstring injury. Earlier in his career, he also had two ankle surgeries. In four full seasons in the NFL, he has played in 61 games but has already missed 17.
To replace him, the New Yorkers could choose to move right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor to the left side. Another possibility would be to establish the back-up tackle, Evan Neal.
