Aaron Rodgers sacrifices 35 million: “I wanted to provide flexibility to the Jets”

The Packers dreamed of it, Aaron Rodgers did it… for the Jets.

Aaron Rodgers has taken a huge pay cut for his new contract with the Jets.

The star quarterback wrote off $35 million. The kind of things you can afford when you’ve already earned $305 million in your career. Something he hadn’t done in Green Bay.

But his state of mind has visibly changed. With ever more trade and movement in the modern NFL, Rodgers wanted his team to be able to take every opportunity to surround him well.

“I thought it was important that they know how determined I was. And in my conversations with Joe (Douglas, Jets GM), he laid out the vision for the franchise very clearly,” Rodgers assured NBC Sports.

“This year, compared to 2005, the number of deals happening now, with guys getting cut or traded, is way higher than before. The big names are now moving to the trade deadline. I wanted to make sure that if a great opportunity presented itself, we could have it. I am very satisfied with the contract. I feel good about it. »

Rodgers will still get $75 million over two years. A good salary and flexibility for leaders. Everybody is happy. Except the Packers and their supporters, who probably dreamed of all this in recent seasons.
