A huge page of history is turning in Green Bay. Quarterback holder of the Packers since 2008, Aaron Rodgers joins the Jets in a trade.
Against the services of the four-time MVP, Green Bay receives a 2023 second-round pick (#42) and 2023 sixth-round pick (#207), and a 2024 second-round pick that can become a 1st-round pick if Aaron Rodgers plays more than 65% of his new team’s snaps. The trade also includes a trade of this year’s first-round pick, with Green Bay picking up 13 by sending pick 15. Finally, New York picks up a 5th-round pick (#170) from this year.
For the Jets, the goal of the operation is clear: to give a quarterback worthy of the name to a team already endowed with an excellent defense and several very talented young people in attack, including a Garrett Wilson who has just won the title of Offensive Rookie of the Year.
With 475 career touchdowns and just 105 interceptions, Rodgers is one of the most talented and efficient quarterbacks in NFL history. At 39, he also brings immense experience to the young New York squad. Number 12 has played 22 playoff games in his career, including Super Bowl XLV, won in February 2011 against the Steelers.
Green Bay changes era in a strange feeling of deja vu. When Rodgers took over in 2008, it was because Brett Favre, who was also 39 at the time, announced his retirement before wanting to return, and ultimately be sent to the Jets. Like Favre, Rodgers also let a player selected in the first round take over. It will be Jordan Love, called by Green Bay in 26th position for the 2020 vintage.
At 24, Love will have the difficult task of succeeding Favre and Rodgers, two of the greatest in history. A leap into the unknown for the entire franchise.
