Aaron Glenn new coach of the New York Jets

Aaron Glenn was one of the most sought-after candidates this year. It was the Jets who landed his services.

According to Adam Schefter, the Lions defensive coordinator has reached an agreement with New York to become the franchise's head coach.

He succeeds Robert Saleh, who arrived during the season, and replaced by interim Jeff Ulbrich. The Jets have therefore chosen to remain on a primarily defensive coaching profile. The choice of offensive coordinator will therefore be crucial.

Apart from the Adam Gase episode (2019-2020), the Jets also tend to favor defensive profiles. Since 2006, Eric Mangini (2006-2008), Rex Ryan (2009-2014), Todd Bowles (2015-2018) and Robert Saleh (2021-2024) have succeeded one another. Ryan and Bowles were about the same age range as Glenn, who is 52 years old.

If his comrade Ben Johnson chose a Chicago team already armed with a quarterback for the future, Aaron Glenn arrives facing an immense task. Will Aaron Rodgers stay? If yes, at what level? The quarterback has been keeping the suspense going for several weeks now.

And if he stays, what state of mind will he be in? Will Garrett Wilson be able to live together?

The Jets have not made the playoffs since the 2010-2011 season. They haven't won their division since 2002.

Last season, with 5 wins and 12 losses, they were 24th in points scored and 20th in points conceded.

An elder of the house

Aaron Glenn knows the Jets well. They even drafted him! As a cornerback, he was selected in the first round by New York in 1994. He stayed until 2001, with two Pro Bowl selections in between. He had 6 interceptions during the 1998 season.

He then went to the Texans, Cowboys, Jaguars and Saints.

The stripped Lions

While Chicago and New York congratulate themselves on their hires, eyes turn to the Lions. After an exceptional season ended by a heartbreak in the playoffs, Detroit lost its two coordinators.

Dan Campbell faces the challenge of surrounding himself well again to try to remain among the best teams of the week.
