San Francisco 49ers (2-2) – New England Patriots (1-3): 30-13
Smooth victory for the 49ers. Without necessarily shining, Kyle Shanahan's men overcame the Patriots who were too limited. The 49ers made the difference, particularly on defense with 1 interception, 2 forced fumbles and 6 sacks. The men of the Bay are relaunching in the NFC. For the Patriots, the rebuilding season continues.
Fred Warner XXL
Easy first half for the locals. The 49ers score the first points of the match on two consecutive field goals (6-0). The Californians may still regret not capitalizing more on their visits to the opposing red zone.
It is ultimately the San Francisco defense which passes the second. After causing a fumble from Rhamondre Stevenson (13 races, 43 yards, 1 smoke), she managed a pick-6 on Jacoby Brissett (19/32, 168 yards, 1TD, INT, 2 smoke). And who other than Fred Warner to pull this off? The linebacker appears in the center and steals the leather to bring it up to the opposing endzone (13-0). Warner continues to torment opposing attacks and is undoubtedly the best defensive player of this first month in the NFL.
After a 4&1 missed by the Patriots, San Francisco took the opportunity to widen the gap a little further. The attack moves up the field and Brock Purdy (15/27, 288 yards, 1TD, 1INT) finds George Kittle (4rec, 45 yards, 1TD) in the corner of the endzone. The tight end makes a nice touchdown reception (20-0) while resisting the returns of two opposing defenders.
The visitors who do not see the light of day in this first act, still leave with 3 points on the clock (20-3) in the last action. Joe Slye makes a 63-yard kick! A distance that allows him to achieve the longest field goal in the history of the franchise.
New England too limited
The Patriots performed better in the second half. First, they cause a fumble on the kickoff. A loss of ball that they improve with a touchdown (20-10) on a 4&1. Brissett fakes the handover to the runner but keeps the leather and finds Austin Hooper alone for the touchdown.
New England also adds a 54-yard field goal (27-13). 10 points scored is better!
But San Francisco didn't shake too much in the 3rd quarter. Between these actions of their opponents, the locals had calmed the revolt with a touchdown. Purdy connected for 53 yards with Brandon Aiyuk. Then Jordan Mason (24 carries, 123 yards, 1TD) followed with a 13-yard reception and a 4-yard run to score the touchdown.
The Patriots defense is also fighting well on its side. She forces several punts and especially Peppers intercepts Purdy at the start of the 4th quarter. A turnover which the attack does nothing about.
Jake Moody definitely puts his team out of reach with a field goal (30-13) 5 minutes from the end.
