Quite a Super Bowl hangover for the 49ers. With a record of 5 wins for 7 losses, the Niners only have a 10% chance of qualifying for the play-offs. Enough to put coach Kyle Shanahan in an ejection seat? Far from it for John Lynch, General Manager of San Francisco.
Questioned during a radio appearance this Friday (KNBR Radio), the ex-safety dismissed the idea:
“All the rumors surrounding Kyle are rather comical. We have won 4 of the last 5 division titles. We've been to the Super Bowl twice. The goal here is to win Super Bowls, and we narrowly failed, I know that. But we have a great coach and the fact that people talk about him like that makes me laugh. We are 100% behind Kyle and everything he brings to this organization. »
San Francisco's offense, Kyle Shanahan's specialty, has clearly declined this season. It went from first place in 2023 in number of touchdowns scored to 20th place in 2024. The team was particularly prone to injuries (Christian McCaffrey, Brandon Aiyuk) but also to several tragedies (death of a child for Trent Williams and Charvarius Wars) which affected the team.
