The former number 1 of Draft makes Lions history.
Jared Goff was resurrected by the Lions, and the franchise pays him back!
According to ESPN, the quarterback signs a big 4-year contract extension for $212 million. Of this amount, 170 million is guaranteed. Thus, he enters the history of the Detroit Lions with this contract by being the highest paid player in the history of the franchise.
Arriving during the 2021 offseason in an exchange for Matthew Stafford, the former Rams quarterback did not arrive on conquered territory. However, Dan Campbell was able to revive it, to the point of bringing the Lions to the conference final last season. Playoffs where he led the Lions to their first victory since the 1991 season, with a victory against… the Rams.
Jared Goff for continuity at the Lions
In 3 seasons, Jared Goff was able to restore hope to a franchise unaccustomed to success before his arrival. After a negative first season, the 29-year-old shone during the last 2 seasons. Two positive seasons and a Pro Bowl nomination later, he was rewarded with a massive gold contract. This proves that the leaders are banking on him to go even further next season.
Last season, Jared Goff posted 4,575 yards in the regular season, with his best percentage in completions (67%). He threw 32 touchdowns (30 passing, 2 rushing) for 12 interceptions. In the playoffs, he posted 837 yards for 4 touchdowns and no interceptions.
With his number 1 receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and his number 1 protector Penei Sewell also extended, Jared Goff can see the future more calmly.
