World Cup 2023: five “NBAers” in the pre-selection of Germany

Third in the last Eurobasket, theGermany will certainly be part of the outsiders of the World Cup 2023 (August 25 – September 10). It must be said that with five players playing in the NBA, coach Gordon Herbert can rely on a talented base to compose his selection.

Thus, in addition to the already known presence of Dennis Schröder (Lakers) and Daniel Theis (Pacers), Maxi Kléber (Mavericks) but also the brothers Wagner, franz (magic) and Moritz (Magic), will be there this summer in Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines.

In his pre-selection of 18 players, a list which will then have to be reduced to 12, Gordon Herbert also called on “ex-NBAer” Isaac Bonga (Bayern), without forgetting Oscar Da Dilva (Barcelona), Niels Giffey ( Bayern), Justus Hollatz (Breogan), David Kramer (Braunschweig), Leon Kratzer (Bonn), Maodo Lo (Berlin), Andreas Obst (Bayern), Christian Sengfelder (Bamberg), Johannes Thiemann (Berlin), Johannes Voigtmann (Milan) , Nick Weiler-Babb (Bayern) and Jonas Wohlfarth-Bottermann (Hamburg).

Obviously, the objective of the Germans will be to win a world medal, as in 2002 (bronze). Remember that they will be in pool E (death pool…) in Okinawa (Japan), with the Japanese host country, Australia and Finland. If it finishes in one of the first two places, Germany will then cross with the group of Slovenia in the second round, to hope to rally the quarter-finals.
