World Cup 2023 | Australia will be very patient with Ben Simmons

After missing the end of the season with the Nets, Ben Simmons continues to progress in his rehabilitation, enough to maintain the hope of participation in the next World Cup.

According to the Melbourne Herald-Sun, the player feels good but still has to tick some boxes before he can offer his services to his national team. While they had set a deadline at the beginning of June, the Boomers are ready to wait for Ben Simmons, until August if necessary…

The 26-year-old hasn’t been on the court since Feb. 15 and has only played 42 games for Brooklyn this season due to back and knee issues. When he played, he was generally only a shadow of himself with averages of 6.9 points, 6.3 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game.

As a reminder, Ben Simmons has not worn the colors of Australia since 2013 and was not pre-selected in the list of 18 players unveiled by coach Brian Goorjian. Nevertheless, he can still be included in the final list of 12 players.

Australia will start their training camp on August 1, before playing a series of warm-up matches from August 11-18. The World Cup will take place from August 25 to September 10 in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia. The Boomers are in Group F, along with Germany, Finland and Japan.

With a team made up of names such as Patty Mills, Josh Giddey, Joe Ingles, Josh Green, Jock Landale, Matisse Thybulle and Matthew Dellavedova, Australia are among the favorites for the podium.
