Recently released by Spurs, Cameron Payne finds himself a “free agent” again, even though he had relaunched well with the Suns, after a very, very complicated start to his NBA career.
A big prospect when he left Murray State, he was chosen in 14th position by Oklahoma City during the 2015 Draft but his time at the Thunder was marked more by injuries and his dance steps or “handshakes” on the bench than by his performances on the floors of the Great League.
His stints in Chicago and then Cleveland did not allow him to get back on track and, in 2019, he left for China even though the Raptors had chosen to cut him before the start of the season.
It was ultimately Monty Williams who gave him another chance at Phoenix, his contribution as back-up to Chris Paul having been valuable for three years for the Suns. After the transfer from CP3, we even imagined him starting next season, but the club finally decided to change course, and transfer him to San Antonio.
Minnesota looking for reinforcement at the front
Released by the Spurs, he is now free, at 29 years old, but even if his game is sometimes still messy and greedy, his constant energy is enough to attract franchises which have not yet completed their squad.
This is the case of the Wolves, who still have a place in their “roster” and who are visibly looking to strengthen themselves in the leader position. They have just tested Elfrid Payton and they are also learning about Kennedy Chandler. According to Darren WolfsonCameron Payne’s profile also interests them.
It must be said that Mike Conley is no longer in his prime and that Jordan McLaughlin had a particularly complicated last season, and that it would therefore be a good idea to strengthen the position. And this even if “combo guard” Shake Milton also arrived from the Sixers.
