Like almost every year, the Wolves are not entitled to the honors of the Christmas match. But this season, undoubtedly the main thing is elsewhere for them: they dominate the league, tied with Boston, with a record of 22-6.
The Minnesota franchise has therefore had an excellent start to the season and can proudly display its collective ambitions. And on an individual level? Can a player in the group aim for a trophy?
“Who is the MVP right now? For us, it’s probably Rudy Gobert,” responds Mike Conley for The Athleticin reference to the recent ESPN poll. “That’s for us. Because without him on the floor, we are a different team. We can still win without certain players, but without him it's much more difficult. I think he would be our most valuable player. Our leader? It's Anthony Edwards. »
The Wolves MVP would therefore not be the leader at the same time. The symbol of a multi-headed team.
“We have high-level players in all areas”continues the playmaker. “Edwards is having his best season, Karl-Anthony Towns is the most efficient player in the world, and Rudy is the best defender right now. And hell, I can also have a vote for MVP, if we want. »
Brilliant players, a collective effort
Anthony Edwards hopes that the Frenchman and Jaden McDaniels will be honored for their defensive performances at the end of the season. “I don’t see how they couldn’t be on the All-Defensive First Team together. These two clearly need to be in the debates”provides the rear after the victory against the Kings, where the stature of the Wolves was so significant.
The honors will come at the end if the franchise continues to shine. But for Mike Conley, that seems to matter little. It is the collective that pays and weighs.
“We get everyone to agree. We have so much talent that we don't care who gets what.” concludes the former Jazz player. “We just want to fight on the pitch and play for each other. This is our atmosphere, our culture. This is what Tim Connelly (President) has built here, this is what Chris Finch is implementing so far. This is a good thing. »
