If the Wolves had refused all offers for Jaden McDaniels at the time of the Draft, it was because they cared about him. They announced it on Monday by dropping a big check: $136 million over five years ! This is huge for a player who remains in his best career season, but who was averaging around 12 points and 4 rebounds. A contract reminiscent of that of Devin Vassell, which the Spurs extended for $146 million over five seasons.
“ We like to reward people who deserve it », Explained Tim Connelly, president of the Wolves. “ Jaden is an important part of what we are putting together now. He’s going to get better and better, he’s a great kid and we think the best is yet to come for him. »
In constant progress since his arrival at the Wolves, McDaniels brings volume of play and defense to a team which has no real weak point, with a balance between strong attackers (Edwards, Towns) and great defenders ( Gobert, Conley and McDaniels).
The only imperative for the young winger: avoid putting his nerves on the wall in the corridors of an NBA room. Last season, he broke his hand during halftime of the game against the Pelicans. Result: no playoffs for him!
