WNBA | Brionna Jones suffers from a ruptured Achilles tendon

Out on injury Tuesday at the end of the 4th quarter against the Seattle Storm, the worst was expected for Brionna Jones. Unfortunately, the verdict fell on Saturday, and the Connecticut Sun announced that its player suffered from a ruptured Achilles tendon. Operated on Friday, she will logically miss the rest of the season.

“First of all, I would like to thank everyone who has reached out to me over the past few days. All the affection I received was truly a privilege as I went through this difficult time” the player said in a statement. “While this is not how I envisioned the end of this season, I am determined and ready to take the next step in my recovery and rehabilitation. I know I have an amazing support system behind me, and I will come back to the other side stronger than ever.”.

Voted best progression of the year in 2021 and best sixth player of the year in 2022, Brionna Jones had also been named All-Star the last two seasons. At 27, she had the best season of her career so far with 15.9 points and 8.2 rebounds in the first 13 games.

“We are heartbroken for her. Anyone who knows her knows that she is an amazing person, a teammate and a leader for our group.” says Stephanie White, team coach. “On the court, she worked so hard to position herself as a cornerstone of our franchise and she was playing terrific basketball up until then. We will be there for her and support her through her healing process.”.

This serious injury is a huge setback for the player but also for the franchise, which loses one of its best elements. As a reminder, the Connecticut Sun had reached the WNBA Finals in 2022, and is logically aiming for the title this season.
