By correcting the Washington Mystics, the Indiana Fever won its first home victory of the season (87-66). While the score was tight at half-time (41-38), the difference was made on the return from the locker room, with in particular a fourth quarter largely won 26-13 to slip towards victory.
“The coach told us in the locker room, at half-time, to be resilient and I think that’s what we did” says Aliyah Boston. “We were led at one point, but we knew we had to keep playing together and we did”.
To make the difference, the Fever relied on its young star: Aliyah Boston. The first choice of the last WNBA Draft was simply the best player on the floor. At the end of a successful performance, she compiled 23 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists at 11/14 shooting!
An already real popularity
She becomes the first rookie in WNBA history to lead both teams in points, assists and rebounds in a game. And the second youngest player in history to compile a game with +20 points, +10 rebounds and +5 assists. Proof of the impact she can have… when she avoids mistakes.
With this success, Indiana brings its record to 3 wins for 6 losses. A rather encouraging record for a young team, which as a reminder, had finished with the worst record in the league last season (5-31).
“It’s a big boost for us. We’ve been in so many close games lately, this one feels really good.” adds Aliyah Boston. “I think the most important thing for us is to stick together. You reminded that it’s a young group but it’s a great group, we work so hard and it’s really nice to get this victory..
Proof of her growing popularity with basketball fans, Aliyah Boston is currently the 4th player in the league with the most votes for the next WNBA All-Star Game. During the first tally of the votes, only A’ja Wilson, Breanna Stewart and Brittney Griner are ahead of her.
