The Wizards have just completed the second stage of their rocket. After thus stealing Michael Winger from the Clippers to lead the “Monumental Basketball” entity which manages the Wizards (NBA), the Mystics (WNBA) but also the Go-Go Capital City (G-League), the structure of owner Ted Leonsis will hire Will Dawkins to fill the Wizards-specific GM role, according to The Athletic.
Already the holder of a fine CV as a manager at only 37 years old, Will Dawkins will thus reunite with Michael Winger, whom he met in Oklahoma City and with whom he worked from 2010 to 2017. Following the departure of Michael Winger to the Clippers, Will Dawkins had continued to rise in rank in Oklahoma, becoming vice president of basketball operations for the Thunder three years ago with Rob Hennigan, who held the same position.
He notably participated in the reconstruction of Oklahoma City after the departure of Russell Westbrook by betting on the Draft, a bet which is beginning to bear fruit. Will Dawkins will join another choice recruit announced this week in Washington, Travis Schlenk, named vice president in charge of personnel.
