Wizards Fire President/GM

Movement among Wizardssince ESPN reports that they decided to fire Tommy Shepardwho held the dual role of President and GM, before the capital franchise formalizes the news.

A decision made by the owner Ted Leonsis and motivated by the fact that Washington failed to reach the playoffs the past two seasons (35-47 record and 12th place in the East each time). On the other hand, the coach Wes Unseld Jr. is not threatened and it will therefore be necessary to hire only a president-GM, or a president and a GM.

Tommy Sheppard, in the organization chart for two decades, was named interim GM of the Wizards at the end of the 2018/19 season, replacing Ernie Grunfeld, before becoming full-time General Manager in the summer of 2019. then to recover the president’s cap when it is extended in November 2021.

This dismissal, however, could have serious repercussions for the future of Washington, as the Bradley Beal project may have come to an end, while extensions for Kristaps Porzingis and/or Kyle Kuzma may not be the solution. which will make it possible to straighten out a franchise that has been unable to leave the soft underbelly of its conference for too many years.
