Facing a back-to-back Dallas team, after its defeat against the Cavaliers the day before, and deprived of Luka Doncic, the Wolves had to be serious. They were in the first quarter, with a sharp Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns and Naz Reid hitting 3-pointers (37-26).
Then, in the second quarter, Chris Finch's troops lowered their tone. The Mavericks took advantage and, almost without seeming to touch it and taking advantage of the lost balls, passed a 13-1 to come back before the break (61-56). In the third quarter, the Texans even went ahead twice, but the Wolves reacted each time to maintain their gap (98-91).
With two award-winning shots from Kyle Anderson, the Minnesota players maintained their lead in the last quarter. Anthony Edwards makes a final effort and the Wolves win 118-110.
What you must remember
– Dallas, so near, so far. Without Luka Doncic and with a lost match in their legs, the Mavericks could have exploded in Minnesota. They held on. Particularly thanks to the inaccuracies of Wolves, not always inspired. And also with Tim Hardaway in good shape with his 32 points. But, except for this short passage in the third act where they missed the mark to really shake up their opponent, they were behind the entire match. They resisted but did not seem to have the weapons to win against such a team.
– Anthony Edwards and Rudy Gobert shine. The back lit up the meeting and even a less successful last quarter, where he forced himself, did not tarnish his performance: 44 points at 12/23 on the shoot, 6/11 at 3-pts. We must also highlight the performance of Rudy Gobert, author of a more than solid match with 20 points at 7/7 shooting, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks. It was necessary because Karl-Anthony Towns had a bad night, worthy of his failed start to the season, with 10 points at 3/12 shooting and 5 lost balls.
