Summer has started well for Tyrese Haliburtonextended for possibly $ 260 million over five years in Indiana, then officially selected among the 12 players who will play the World Cup with Team USA.
Guest of Paul George’s “Podcast P”, the leader of Indiana spoke of this opportunity to seize the right wagon, in order to be positioned for when the previous generation, of which PG is a part, will be finished.
“It’s about establishing certain things. There are many young players who have been selected. It’s going to be fun, even with the direction Team USA will take next. Considering the age of Paul George, KD and the others, I don’t want to call them old people but they are older than us, and this could be their last Olympics., he explained. “But there must be a transition that must begin to take place towards us, the youngest. What we’re going to see this year are the basics of this transition, and that makes me very excited. We have a lot of players who have things to prove, not only for themselves but vis-à-vis everyone. When you see our roster, nobody is really installed yet, or in the Top 10 of the league. We all still have a lot of room for improvement.”
As such, Tyrese Haliburton does not really see himself claiming a place for the Paris Olympic Games.
“If you ask every player on our team, everyone will tell you that they would like to be on the Olympic team next year. But there are a lot of guys who are going to want to come, like ‘We want this to be our last’. Whether it’s KD, or even LeBron who may have to think about it. Everyone will think about it. As I said, I want to be part of this transition with the new wave of players”.
Among the players brought to take over in the future by his side, he will find this summer Anthony Edwards, a player with whom he is eager to evolve. For him as for the others, this selection is therefore far from trivial.
“With Anthony, we were drafted the same year, and I see him as one of the players with whom I am close in the league. I can’t wait to play with him because I feel like our games complement each other pretty well. We were together at the All-Star Game and we had a good laugh together on the bench.
