Will the Knicks be able to keep Isaiah Hartenstein?

What will the Knicks look like next season? No doubt a lot to the team that reached the conference semi-final, only losing in Game 7 against the Pacers after suffering an avalanche of injuries…

The biggest question mark concerns Julius Randle, who is in a position to test the market in the summer of 2025 since he has a “player option” at $32 million for the 2025/26 campaign, after a season at $30 million for the next campaign. And which could therefore serve as a counterpart in the event of a summer exchange.

According to The Athletic, New York is, however, not “actively” seeking to transfer its strong winger, who can be extended via a new four-year, $182 million contract starting August 3.

Few good pivots available on the market

Are the Knicks ready to offer so much to the former Lakers and Pelicans? It seems doubtful, and the other clubs are therefore monitoring the situation. Just as they watch Isaiah Hartensteinwho for his part is an “unprotected” free agent this summer, and who can therefore sign wherever he wants…

A valuable soldier for Tom Thibodeau, especially with Mitchell Robinson's injuries, the 26-year-old did his job in the playoffs, averaging 8.5 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists, at a 59% success rate.

At his age and while good pivots will be rare during free agency (Nic Claxton and Jonas Valanciunas are the two “biggest names” of the summer), Isaiah Hartenstein therefore has the opportunity to collect a big check. And the problem, as noted by Yahoo! Sportsis that the Knicks will have to play very tight to hope to keep it.

New York will therefore not be able to offer him more than 72.5 million dollars over four years, while managers think that he could obtain at least 80 million, or even 100 million, from another team…
