Will Derrick Rose stay with the Grizzlies?

While tributes have multiplied from the four corners of the basketball planet following the death of Dikembe Mutombo, the Grizzlies for their part took advantage of their “Media Day” to tip their hat to Derrick Rosewho announced his retirement last week, while he still had one year of contract to honor in Memphis. Everyone highlighted his career, the legacy he left in the NBA, but also the man.

While he had to share the lead with Ja Morant And Derrick Rose, Marcus Smart wanted to thank him for all of his work last season alongside him.

“First of all, it was hard to hear that Derrick was going to retire. When we know everything he brought to this game, to this league and to us for the time we had the privilege of spending with him. He was very, very influential for us. We are aware of all this, we cherish it, and we say thank you to Derrick”he declared.

Still close to Memphis?

The GM of the franchise, Zach Kleiman, spoke more about the business aspect for his part, but did not miss the opportunity to salute the class of Derrick Rose in the process which was very quickly finalized, the player having waived his entire salary in order to be released.

“First of all, congratulations to Derrick Rose on his retirement. I'm really happy that Derrick was able to be with us for a season,” he emphasized. “We got a phone call, and it was classic Derrick. I completely respect the person he is and the decision he chose to make.”

Zach Kleiman did not provide further details on a possible role that Derrick Rose could one day occupy within his franchise. In his tribute, Desmond Bane went a little further, suggesting that Derrick Rose could stay with the Grizzlies.

“We'll miss him, but he'll be around. He will stay around Memphis. So I'm happy and super proud of him. And I'm also excited to see him again, and to always be able to benefit from his advice, on this or that thing.”slipped the back of Memphis.
