Will Aaron Gordon extend to the Nuggets?

Key element of the Nuggets system, on offense and defense, Aaron Gordon is eligible for a four-year contract extension for an amount of around 150 million, and as for Kevin Durant, the deadline is set for October 21. Brian Windhorst reports that the franchise has not yet made this offer to the Gordon clan who, if necessary, would have already signed it. According to our colleague, Denver would like to extend its player, but with a small discount to save some money after the “max” extensions of Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic.

During the “media day”, the former Magic dunker expressed his wish to extend with Denver, a franchise which completely transformed his career: “ I really like this organization. I like the players, the coaches, I hope it happens. Looks like it's heading in a good direction. So I'm excited, I hope to be extended and stay with this organization.”.

Free agent in July?

The good news is that discussions are underway between the player's agent, Calvin Andrews, and Nuggets GM Calvin Booth, who shares similar sentiments regarding his player: “ We hope to have constructive discussions with his agent to find an agreement that suits both parties. He is an important part of everything we have done. We would like to keep him here for a long time”.

If the two camps fail to reach an agreement, Aaron Gordon will have the opportunity to give up his “player option” to be a free agent at the end of the season.

Player option : possibility for a player to activate (or not) the last year of his contract, in order to end his lease or become a “free agent” one year in advance.
