Why France has a good chance of facing Canada in the quarter-finals

The posters for the quarter-finals of the men's tournament are not yet known, the last matches from Group C being played tonight and the draw taking place shortly afterwards, but we can already get an idea.

Because if the logic is respected (victories of the United States and Serbia against Puerto Rico and South Sudan), the ranking of the teams at the end of the qualifying phase will be as follows:

1/ United States
2/ Germany
3/ Canada
4/ Serbia
5/ France
6/ Australia
7/ Brazil
8/ Greece

According to the FIBA system, the UNITED STATES and theGermany would therefore be in Hat D, the first. In Hat E, the second, we should find the Canada and the Serbia. In Hat F, the third, there would therefore be the France and theAustralia. Finally, in Hat G, the fourth, there would be the Brazil and the Greece.

In Pot F, France would therefore meet a team from Pot E in the quarter-finals, so Canada or Serbia. Except that Australia cannot face Canada since the two countries were in the same group in the pools, and the Boomers would therefore be forced to play Serbia… leaving Canada to France.

Moreover, in this scenario, we already know the quarter-finals with the ban for teams to meet a team from their group: United States – Brazil, Germany – Greece, Canada – France, Serbia – Australia.
