What role for Klay Thompson in the Mavericks game?

Since the Mavericks' loss in the NBA Finals, Mark Cuban has not been involved in the sports side of his former franchise. Now, GM Nico Harrison reports to new manager Patrick Dumont, who is kept informed and has trusted his GM to handle roster issues. The fact remains that Cuban is consulted on team moves, and he fully approves of Dumont's arrival. Klay Thompson.

“It's obvious that Klay is the most important recruit”Cuban replied to the microphone of Josh Hart and Jalen Brunson podcast. “He's someone you have to watch, who's going to shoot 40 percent (from 3-point range), we hope so… In Golden State, he always had to be on the move. They relied on that moving offense where he was always coming off screens and running.”

In Dallas, the offense isn't really moving. Solo players Doncic and Irving take turns driving, and their teammates adapt, and must be ready to recover a lob pass to the interiors, or to draw when the ball is out.

An easier life for Klay?

“We don't do that, or not as much, and of course we're going to perform some of those actions for him.” Cuban warns. “But all he has to do is get into the corners or on the wing and catch and shoot balls that Luka and Kyrie get out. Hopefully his life will be a lot easier.”

The 3-point shot was the Mavericks' priority this summer, which also explains the additions of Quentin Grimes, Naji Marshall and Spencer Dinwiddie. “We wanted to keep a defensive mindset, but we also wanted someone who could make 3-pointers because Luka will always find you if you're open… Kyrie will find you too or he'll score on his own.”
