The first steps ofAlexandre Sarr during the Summer League were not particularly impressive. While he was interesting in defense, on the other hand, in attack, the French interior was in great difficulty with only 5.5 points on average at 19% shooting success and 12% at 3-pts… The second choice of the last Draft even signed a game at 0/15 shooting!
What to worry about? Obviously not, because some players also had difficulties in the summer league and his real NBA career has still not started. Above all, his qualities have not disappeared in Las Vegas.
“First of all, there is his personality. He is a person of character, who loves this sport,” comments his coach Brian Keefe, eager to work with the Frenchman. “Then there’s his versatility. He brings it on both ends of the floor, especially defensively. He can defend all positions.”
“Building habits is the priority”
His 2.5 blocks on average in Summer League are indeed part of the positive things. But how can we analyze Alexandre Sarr's clumsiness in attack?
“He has the qualities to score from anywhere,” answers the Wizards coach. “What impresses me is his reading of the game. He's a good passer. We want to give him the ball in his hands so he can make the play, for himself and for others.”
The Washington franchise is rebuilding and is focusing on training to develop its young talents. The victories will probably wait and this work could pay off in a few years.
“Building habits is the priority,” confirms Brian Keefe. “I said the same thing with Bilal Coulibaly last year. We teach the young guys the habits of professionals and how the league works. That's the only way to improve: to have regular work habits. That's going to be our priority with these guys.”
