Wes Unseld Jr. is no longer the coach of the Wizards…

After Adrian GriffinIt is Wes Unseld Jr. who leaves the bench of his team. President of Monumental Basketball, Michael Winger has just announced that the coach was dismissed from his position!

Head to the club offices for the son of the former local legend, who arrived as “head coach” at the club in 2021, but has not worked a miracle (77 victories – 130 defeats) since his appointment…

“After several in-depth conversations with Wes, we decided together that a change was necessary for the good of the team”explains Michael Winger, who arrived on his side last year, and who therefore did not choose Wes Unseld Jr. “Wes embodies the qualities we value in our organization, and his extensive basketball experience will be an asset to the front office as we move toward our long-term goals.” We look forward to his continued contributions to our organization and our community.”

At 48 years old, and after experiences as an assistant at the Wizards (2005-2011), the Warriors (2011-12), the Magic (2012-15) then the Nuggets (2015-2021), Wes Unseld Jr. therefore becomes a manager . Like his father, who had held almost every position (assistant, coach, GM, president) within the club.

“I am grateful to have been the coach of the Washington Wizards”assures Wes Unseld Jr. “I am delighted with this new opportunity to work towards the objectives of our organization.”

From now on, the Wizards will appoint an interim coach to finish the campaign, already over for the club (7 wins – 36 losses), before looking for their new “head coach” during the offseason.
