Looking for a “super assistant” to support Billy Donovan, the Bulls have found the rare gem with Wes Unseld Jr. Former assistant to Mike Malone at the Nuggets then coach of the Wizards, he will enrich a bench which has been bare since the end of the season.
Donovan first lost Chris Fleming, then Maurice Cheeks, who could become manager. This week, it's Josh Longstaff, who left Chicago to join the staff of the Hornets and their new coach, Charles Lee.
Son of Wes Unseld, former Washington legend, “Junior” arrived at the Wizards in 2021, but he did not perform a miracle with 77 victories for 130 defeats. After experiences as an assistant at the Wizards (2005-2011), the Warriors (2011-12), the Magic (2012-15) then the Nuggets (2015-2021), Wes Unseld Jr. became a manager, after his replacement by Brian Keefe.
Defensive specialist, it's a nice pick for the Bulls while a large number of assistants are currently being courted by the Lakers, who are looking for a successor to Darvin Ham.
