Wayne Ellington joins Erik Spoelstra’s staff

Here it is again Wayne Ellington ! Nicknamed “The Man with the Golden Arm”, the former shooter had been seen for some time in the Heat’s facilities. It’s official since yesterday, here it is hired as assistant in charge of player development in Erik Spoelstra’s staff. Passed by the Heat as a player for almost three seasons, from 2016 to 2019, he replaced Anthony Carter, who left to strengthen the Grizzlies staff.

Retired from the courts since last summer after a 13-year career, Wayne Ellingon notably made his mark on the history of the Heat, becoming the player who scored the most 3-point baskets in a season, in 2017/18 (227), a record later broken by Duncan Robinson.

Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press clarified that Wayne Ellington would have seen himself integrated into the “front office”, a vision that the Heat did not share. After all, the former North Carolina resident is only 35 years old, which gives him plenty of time to practice his skills before eventually becoming an NBA executive. Unless this place is reserved warmly for Udonis Haslem, also a young retiree.

This will also be his first experience in coaching. As a reminder, Erik Spoelstra’s staff already included three other former Miami players: Caron Butler, Chris Quinn and Malik Allen.
