Vince Carter very moved to learn that the Nets will retire his jersey

A few weeks after obtaining his entry ticket to the Hall Of Fame, Vince Carter learned that the Nets were going to retire his jersey. The date is not yet known, but we already know that his number 15 will be positioned next to Jason Kidd's number 5. It was the Mavericks coach who told him, and Vince Carter was very moved by the news. Together, they formed one of the most spectacular duos of the mid-2000s, even if they never managed to overcome the obstacle of the Heat and then the Cavaliers in the playoffs. In four and a half seasons with New Jersey, Vince Carter averaged 23.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.7 assists.

A few years ago, the record holder for seasons played in the NBA confided that he hoped the Nets would retire his jersey. What the Raptors have still not done… and besides, the Canadian franchise has still not retired a single jersey from a former player.

“Coming here in a few years, seeing my name on the ceiling of the room, it would be a dream come true, as for any player. This is a goal for us. That means you had a phenomenal career for this team. I would never say no” he said in 2017. “It’s always been great to come here, warm, always wearing Nets jerseys (New Jersey era). It's always cool. No matter where I go, it's always cool to see Nets, Raptors jerseys. That's the best part: coming back and seeing those jerseys. »

For now, the Nets have only retired six jerseys in their history: Drazen Petrovic, posthumously; Jason Kidd; John Williamson; Bill Melchionni; Julius Erving and Buck Williams.
