New large-scale test for Victor Wembanyamatraveling for the first time to Massachusetts with his Spursin order to face it for the second time this season Celtics who still have the best record in the NBA.
The logic was respected between the two teams, because despite “Wemby” (27 points, 5 rebounds in 27 minutes) and Devin Vassell (21 points), Boston won easily (117-98) against San Antonioin the wake of his trio's 67 points Jayson Tatum – Jaylen Brown – Jrue Holiday.
A success which took shape from the second quarter, when the Celtics punished the Spurs with an 8-0 from which the latter never recovered, not sufficiently inspired at 3-points to be able to compete.
WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER
– An acceleration was enough for Boston. In contact in the first quarter and still one possession away at the start of the second, the Spurs ended up cracking when the Celtics, although not at full strength (without Kristaps Porzingis or Derrick White) and with a mix of starters/substitutes, gave them inflicted an 8-0 in two minutes and, above all, a 24-6 in six minutes. Still undefeated at home (20-0), Joe Mazzulla's men then managed this lead, increased to +30, to better pocket their 32nd victory of the season. Mostly brilliant at 3-points (18/38) as usual.
– The difference has widened from afar. We could have suspected it, but the Celtics took the measure of the Spurs by blowing them up with their insolent 3-point success: 47%, for 18 winning baskets, which contrasted considerably with the pitiful 7/34 of the Texans in exercise (21%).
– Victor Wembanyama remains consistent. New defeat for the Spurs, but third game in a row with at least 25 points for “Wemby”, still limited in terms of minutes but which has nevertheless been approaching the 30 mark for two games (27 and 27). Author of a great start (10 points), the Frenchman then calmed down to better re-accelerate at the end of the third quarter (9 points). His contribution to scoring did not help his team to shake these imperturbable Celtics, but he has the merit of continuing to gain in productivity and efficiency over a small sample of playing time. Black point: his 5 lost balls.
