Victor Wembanyama and the Mets outclassed by Asvel

The Metropolitans 92 had a complicated evening on the Asvel floor, with a 17-point setback, a struggling Victor Wembanyama, generally well defended, and undoubtedly a serious injury to DeVante Jones.

Passed by Lyon-Villeurbanne last season, Victor Wembanyama was honored before this meeting of the 23rd day of Betclic Elite by receiving his 2022 champion ring from the hands of Gaëtan Müller, deputy president of Asvel.

On the ground, on the other hand, the Villeurbannais did not give any gift to the Ile-de-France residents. Despite a start to the match marked by two big blocks from “Wemby”, it was the locals who took the match by the right end (11-4). The good sequences like on the hook then the dunk of TaShawn Thomas, were far too rare on the Boulogne-Levallois side (15-12), while Victor Wembanyama started at 0/5 in shooting.

The Yves Pons show

After Youssoupha Fall at the end of the first quarter (20-12), it was Jonah Matthews and Nando De Colo who ensured the scoring with two 3-point missiles each to relegate the Mets to 13 lengths at the break (47 -34). Boulogne-Levallois continued to sink back from the locker room, leaving the De Colo-Bost pair to burn from afar then Yves Pons to put on the show. The former Grizzlies winger chained a counter, two dunks and a 3-pointer at the buzzer of possession to help offer 21 points to Asvel ten minutes from the end (70-49).

Victor Wembanyama’s return to -20 didn’t change much. In the end, the Boulogne-Levallois nugget delivered one of its worst offensive games of the season in the league (15 points at 3/13 shooting, 11 rebounds), and Boulogne-Levallois left the Astroballe with a new setback (86-69) which lets Monaco escape a little more, winner in Roanne, at the top of the championship.
