What’s better than a duel with your “best enemy” Chet Holmgren to kick off the preseason Victor Wembanyama ?
We can also say that these two “pivots of the future” do not miss their first steps in the NBA, since they put on a show from the first quarter, Holmgren compiling 14 points and 7 rebounds to respond to Wembanyama’s 10 units !
Despite their young age, “Wemby” and “Holmy” are not shy and, all aggressive, they show the way to Thunder and to Spurs in these first twelve minutes very focused on scoring, but dominated by Texans who were much too easy in attack and helped by the opponent’s clumsiness (43-30). Note thatOKAY evolves without Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, left to rest.
Half time, and that’s it
The duel at the top between Chet Holmgren and Victor Wembanyama resumes with a vengeance in the second quarter and, both of them, multiply the 3-point baskets, the “and-ones”, the blocks or the dunks. A great, very great spectacle and it’s not that frequent for a simple pre-season match…
At the break, Holmgren had 21 points and 9 rebounds, while Wembanyama had 18 points. At the level of the display board, it is San Antonio who continues to race in the lead, in a meeting where the defenses are at bay, even if Oklahoma City picks up at the end of the half (81-74).
Upon returning from the locker room, the pleasure subsides when we see that Chet Holmgren will not return to the game. Victor Wembanyama is very present, but Davis Bertans steals the show with his… four award-winning successes in three minutes! Overall the only thing to remember from this period, much less spectacular and entertaining, while “Wemby” was quickly released for good by Gregg Popovich.
Upon arrival, the – long – battle of replacements turned in favor of the Thunder (122-121) and, even playing less than 20 minutes each, Chet Holmgren (21 points, 9 rebounds) and Victor Wembanyama (20 points, 5 rebounds) finished with nice numbers. We can’t wait to see them at work again!
