Tyronn Lue sets Norman Powell’s goal of being 6th Man of the Year

After starting the season in the five, Norman Powell is now 6th man at the Clippers. And it works for him since he has been running at 13.7 points per game since the start of the campaign, and downright 16.2 points for 10 games. During Los Angeles’ last outing, against the Jazz, he even scored 30 points in 28 minutes…

“Like I said before, being 6th Man of the Year should be his goal, and he has a great opportunity to do that, scoring 30 points on 15 shots off the bench.” explained Tyronn Lue. “He is very efficient. And we need him to play well, especially with the injured, because he’s upped his game, and he’s playing well for us. »

Like Darvin Ham with Russell Westbrook, Tyronn Lue has therefore already started the campaign for his player. A way also to make him accept this role of replacement in a very dense workforce…

“If I’m in the running and I win, great, but I think the main goal is always to help the team win and be the last team standing at the end of the year.”replies the interested party. “That’s my main goal, and all you can get along the way is bonuses. »

“I like that he doesn’t sugarcoat things and that he’s direct and upfront with me about expectations so I don’t have to guess or figure anything out on my own”

Uncomfortable at the start of the campaign in relation to his role in the team, especially vis-à-vis all the other backs / wingers, Norman Powell was able to count on Tyronn Lue to put him back in the saddle.

“All the staff, the franchise and my teammates always tell me to think about the next shoot. He (Lue) always tells me to keep my head up and stop worrying. It just came from the pressure I put on myself, my desire to shine, the time I spend working on my game and the expectations I set for myself. »

The honesty of his coach is therefore essential in the eyes of the former Raptors and Blazers.

“I like that he doesn’t sugarcoat things and that he’s direct and upfront with me about expectations so I don’t have to guess or figure anything out on my own”concludes Norman Powell. “He was straightforward. I know I’m an important part of this team and they need me. »
