Tyrese Haliburton still clumsy, the Pacers win differently

While he averaged 21.8 points, with a 40% success rate from afar, before the All-Star Game, Tyrese Haliburton only averages 15.9 points since the restart (12 matches), only 22% away…

Last night, against the Nets, the leader struggled again, shooting 6/18 including 1/9 behind the 3-point line. But the All-Star appreciated seeing his team find other ways to win, by insisting in the paint.

“Earlier in the season, we relied so much on the 3-pointer that if we didn't shoot well, we lost” he reminded the Indy Star. “We did a good job (tonight). We've really struggled since the All-Star Game but we've done a good job of focusing defensively so we can win when the shots aren't going in.”

While they had the 4th best average by far before the cut (38.1%), the Pacers have fallen to 26th place (33.8%) since the restart. But behind Pascal Siakam (28 points, 11 rebounds), they raised the tone in defense, and bludgeoned the Brooklyn racket, in which they scored 82 points!

The impact of his injury and the loss of shooters alongside him?

“We shot very badly (6/30 from afar overall), and I shot very badly, but we managed to win this match by a fair margin because we defended and attacked the circle” concludes Tyrese Haliburton.

But how can we explain this period of shooting scarcity on the part of Tyrese Haliburton. Pacers specialist, Caitlin Cooper gave some ideas on X/Twitter, explaining that the playmaker likes to shift to the right to shoot, when the opposing defender gets closer, and that this requires using his left leg to give an impulse. Something the former King seems reluctant to do since his hamstring strain.

Not to mention that the Pacers also transferred Buddy Hield, and that Bennedict Mathurin is injured. Without them, opposing defenses can focus on Tyrese Haliburton, and leave him less space on the periphery.

It is therefore by defending that Rick Carlisle's troops have won three of their last four matches (Orlando, Oklahoma City and Brooklyn) to remain in 6th place (38 wins – 30 losses) in the Eastern Conference.
