Tyrese Haliburton sets franchise record for assists in a season

Best passer in the league this season, Tyrese Haliburton set a franchise record against the Thunder. His 11 assists in this match allowed him to surpass Mark Jackson's 713 assists in 1997/98. Here is the All-Star with 714 assists this season.

“He’s good at it. He knows how to read the game and make an impact without just scoring,” sliding Pascal Siakam. “It is defined by victory and not by points,” confirms Rick Carlisle. “He should never be by his points because he is a master at making the game easier for his teammates. »

The Pacers coach is well placed to compare his All-Star with the former Indiana and New York player. He was an assistant to Larry Bird on the Indiana bench during the 1997/98 season.

“Mark was a great player. One of the two or three best passers in history for a while,” recalls the coach, Jackson being the sixth best passer in history behind John Stockton, Jason Kidd, Chris Paul, LeBron James and Steve Nash. “He was a true master and Tyrese has a lot of similar qualities. Vision, sense of timing, knowing when and how to give the ball. »

Best passer in the NBA

“It’s a really cool thing to pull off.”, comments Tyrese Haliburton on this franchise record. “ This speaks to the intensity of our attack and the shooting success of my teammates. That is the most important. There are no assists if players don't make shots. I'm lucky enough to play with great guys, which makes things easy. »

His teammates also paid tribute to him. “He’s one of the best passers I’ve seen, if not the best,” says TJ McConnell. “He makes 10 passes with his eyes closed. Me, to make 10 passes, I need all my energy, he does that at will. He is such a passer, who makes our team better. »
