Drafted by the Kings before being traded to Indiana, Tyrese Haliburton has been accustomed to falling out of favor with broadcasters operating on national television since joining the NBA in 2020.
The situation will not really change in 2023/24 since the Pacers are only scheduled once on national television. It will be January 30, 2024 in Boston, and the meeting will be broadcast by TNT, a great first for the Indiana leader who had checked the date on his calendar.
“It’s also my girlfriend’s (Jade Jones) birthday, that’s why I know the date. But, yes, it is that evening”, he specified. “I was on ESPN once, when we beat the Wizards last October.”
Win to make things happen
In search of exposure, for him and his franchise, Tyrese Haliburton intends to take advantage of his only meeting on the national network to change things in the future, even if he knows that it will be difficult.
“You have to win to be on television and that’s what we have to do”he added. “But that won’t change everything either. When we win in Indiana, we might get three games on national television…”
The leader seems jaded, perhaps rightly so, but not resigned for all that. His story speaks for him since he was often underrated in his youth and doubts about his success in the NBA persisted until his Draft, in 12th position. The sequel proved him right, and the tide continues to turn for him, with this international experience in the jersey of Team USA, and his team, able to hope to grab the playoffs next April.
“It’s my life as a basketball player”he summarized. “But it doesn’t matter, it’s more fun that way”.
