Tyler Herro It won't take long to find his feet again. Absent since November 8 due to a sprained ankle, the Miami guard marked his return with a first game at 25 points, a second at 28 points and 7 assists, then a peak at 30 points Friday evening in the 122-113 victory against Atlanta.
Fully on the floor upon his return, Tyler Herro was able to reassure himself on a physical level, with more than 34 minutes on average over his first three matches back. A great start made possible by all the preparation work carried out upstream, as his coach recalled.
“Usually there is a little delay in the rhythm,” underlined Erik Spoelstra. “The one thing you can't ignore or underestimate about him is his work ethic. He works tirelessly. That’s what you really have to appreciate about Tyler. This is not something that happened because of his talent. This is the result of long-term work behind the scenes.”
Ready to step up
As for basketball, he quickly regained his automatisms. Building on this successful return, the darling of the Kaseya Center particularly shone through his efficiency, with high percentages in each match which also show that he has reintegrated perfectly into the Heat collective.
“It's really just being more mentally mature in reading the game. I feel like I know when to shoot, when to pass, finding that right balance. I feel like I'm better at manipulating the defense and making the right call.”he explained.
The big absentee from the last playoffs now hopes to be able to gain momentum by building on this good start, with the “Christmas Game” against Philly from tomorrow, until the end of the season.
“I only played 11 matches this year. The more I play, the more comfortable I will be. I'm going to continue to learn the game better. So I'm delighted to be back healthy and on the pitch.”he added. “At the end of the day, I feel like everyone will be out at some point during the season. I hope I took my part from the start (…). I took the time to rest, spend time with my children and take care of myself.”
