Recently sent to Houston with Theo Maledon, Ty Jerome was cut off by the Rockets.
But according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, the NCAA champion (2019) with Virginia is negotiating his arrival at the Warriors’ training camp, to join the defending champions when they return from Japan.
Does the 25-year-old point guard have a chance of securing 15th place in the squad at Golden State, which is still vacant? Probably not, the Warriors having decided to start the season with 14 players under guaranteed contract in order to save some money. On the other hand, Ty Jerome could land a “two-way contract” within the Warriors.
For now, the two contracts of this type, for players who will navigate between the G-League and the NBA, are held by Lester Quinones and Quinndary Weatherspoon, but things could change.
Ty Jerome could thus become insurance in the lead, in the event of injury to Stephen Curry or Jordan Poole.
The Warriors and guard Ty Jerome are in talks on a camp deal to compete for a roster spot after he clears waivers Monday, sources tell me and @ShamsCharania. Warriors still finalizing plan for two-ways/empty 15th over next couple weeks. Unlike they fill 15th for tax savings.
