Two years after his injury, Danilo Gallinari delighted to return to the national team

At the end of August 2022, Danilo Gallinari and Italy are preparing to compete in EuroBasket. The first then suffered a serious injury during a match against Georgia, with a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. His season with the Celtics will therefore be blank, a great regret for him.

Almost two years later, and as he missed the 2023 World Cup, the Italian returned to action with his national team, in a friendly match against… Georgia, during which he scored 13 points.

“It’s a special comeback for me, especially after what happened two years ago, against the same team. It’s nice to get back on the pitch with the guys”, explains the Bucks player. “It’s always a special emotion. It's a cliché, but it's always the same emotion since I was here, at 17 or 18 years old. I had to wait two years to experience this again, but it's awesome. »

The adventure will continue for Danilo Gallinari (35 years old) since he is part of the group of twelve players who will participate in the TQO at the beginning of July, in order to win a place for the Paris Olympic Games.

“We’re good. We don't have much time to work, but fortunately we have a well-trained team that knows each other.” continues the former Denver or New York player. “We know what Gianmarco Pozzecco wants and what we can do. We are a well-oiled machine. »

The Italians will go to San Juan for their Olympic Qualifying Tournament and will have to survive against Puerto Rico, Bahrain, Lithuania, Mexico and Ivory Coast.
