TV Rights | NBA Rejects TNT Offer, Keeps Amazon

Start of the week, TNT had decided to use its clause allowing it to match Amazon's offer to remain an NBA broadcaster starting in the 2025/26 season. But the league responded that this counter-proposal was not equivalent to that of Amazon Prime Video, thus deciding to reject it.

It was already known that it was not certain that the NBA would accept TNT's counter-proposal because, even if the network had the right to match an offer, the league considered that it had to be equivalent. However, the streaming service of Warner Bros. Discovery (Max) doesn't reach as many people as that ofAmazon (Prime Video).

In addition, Jeff Bezos' company had committed to paying a large portion of the contract up front, into a blocked account. Despite its debt, Warner Bros. Discovery had assured that he could do the same in the NBA…

So these are ESPN/ABC, NBC And Amazon who will be the three diffusers NBA in one year, for a record total of $76 billion over eleven years. That is, until the end of the 2035/36 season. Starting in the 2025/26 season, the show “Inside The NBA”, featuring Charles Barkley, Shaquille O'Neal and Kenny Smith, should therefore disappear.

Although Warner Bros. Discovery is now expected to take the matter to court in an attempt to keep its share.
