Member of the Canadian team in U18 and U19, then during qualifying tournament matches for the 2016 Olympic Games and the 2019 World Cup, Tristan Thompson was not part of the adventure of the last World Cup, with the bronze medal won by Canada and a ticket to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
He also welcomed this great competition, believing that “all the efforts and work done by everyone over the years have paid off” for the land of the maple leaf. “It didn’t start last summer, it started fifteen years ago and we built on it”he adds to Sports Net.
Even if he was not part of the hard core put in place by Nick Nurse from 2019, the interior of the Cavaliers is a candidate for the Olympic adventure in six months.
“Yes, I will play in Paris. I spoke to Rowan Barrett and Jordi Fernandez. So we talk, we talk”he says, talking about his discussions with the general manager and the coach of the Canadian team.
A 12th man profile?
What are Tristan Thompson's arguments to convince the selection to take him to Paris, when they finished third in the World Cup without him?
“We can clearly see the areas in which our team needs to be better,” he announces, referring to the domestic sector. “It’s visible. So I think there's a lot of commonality with me coming back to Cleveland. Both teams, the Cavaliers and Canada, need the same things. I think I have a card to play. »
With his size and his experience as an NBA champion (in 2016 with Cleveland), perhaps Tristan Thompson, who has also taken over his #13 since the departure of Ricky Rubio, could make the 12th man this summer. “He is a professional, who knows what needs to be done on a daily basis to be ready and have an impact”summarizes his coach at the Cavaliers, JB Bickerstaff.
