Trendon Watford stays in Brooklyn

Accustomed to the end of the season like a cannonball, because his teams no longer play anything and he sees his minutes increase, Trendon Watford will continue his career with the Nets next season. ESPN tells us, in fact, that he has decided to sign his “qualifying offer” of $2.7 million.

Protected this summer, since Brooklyn had the opportunity to match potential offers he would receive from rival franchises, the versatile 23-year-old winger will now become a free agent in a year. The difference is that this time he will be able to join the team of his choice, without its leaders having any control over his future.

Undrafted when he left LSU in 2021, Trendon Watford landed with the Nets last summer, after two years with the Blazers (where he had seduced Damian Lillard). In his career, he averaged 7.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists, shooting 54% (including 36% on 3-pointers) and 76% on free throws. But so far, he has mainly distinguished himself when the stakes had disappeared, otherwise contenting himself with bits of games.
