After an interesting first season, Tre Mann had slipped to the end of the Oklahoma City bench. That is to say that the playmaker, chosen in 18th position in the 2021 Draft, was not the priority in creation, with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Josh Giddey or even Jalen Williams who had established themselves in this role.
He therefore took charge of Charlotte at the trade deadline, with Vasilije Micic and Davis Bertans, in exchange for Gordon Hayward. And in the absence of LaMelo Ball, the former Florida player even starts for Steve Clifford.
For the moment, the result is very positive, with four victories in five outings for the team and good general activity for Tre Mann, who averages 12.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and 5.6 assists.
“I think it fits pretty well.” he appreciates. “I just go out there and try to play hard with talented guys. We all have good basketball IQs, so it's easy to play with these guys. And I think I'm playing well. I just try to show off my creative skills as best I can, and it's kind of fun. »
Adapting to LaMelo Ball
For his part, Steve Clifford appreciates the seriousness of his recruit, an aspect which seemed to be lacking on the Charlotte side.
“He is conscientious”explains the Hornets coach. “It shows that he thinks things through and goes home saying, 'I want to be good enough.' I think for him it's just overall a matter of confidence and having a chance to play consistently.”
As for what his role will be when LaMelo Ball, still in the infirmary because of his ankle but not far from a return, returns, Tre Mann assures that he is not worried, because he can evolve with the All-Star.
“I often played against him and he had good matches against us. But I think we can play really well together, he can play a little bit without the ball and I can do that too. This is his team and I will adapt to what suits him best. For now, I'm just trying to get out there and be collective. »
