At the end of the worst season in their history, with 14 victories for 68 defeats, the Pistons decided to hire a president. For several years, there was no one in this position, and owner Tom Gores chose Trajan Langdon, the current GM of the Pelicans. A former player, who played in the NBA and Europe (Euroleague champion and Final Four MVP), Langdon quickly rose through the ranks as a manager, and according to ESPN, he will therefore be the new strong man in the management of the Pistons. In recent years, he had turned down jobs with the Kings and Wizards.
Whether at the Nets, for three years, or at the Pelicans, for five years, Langdon has always been unanimous with his choices in the Draft or his notable exchanges. In bulk, we can cite the selections of Jarrett Allen, Caris LeVert, Trey Murphy and Herb Jones, or the transfer of CJ McCollum and the choice of Willie Green as coach for the Pelicans. A franchise where he will leave a big void, and some big issues pending: the future of Brandon Ingram; the possible extension of Jonas Valanciunas.
In Detroit, he arrived in a franchise without guidelines with a shaky workforce and in a gloomy atmosphere. We wouldn't be surprised if he hits hard in the Draft, why not by trading the 5th pick.
