Trae Young has not digested his absence from Team USA

If many stars – LeBron James, Kevin Durant and even Stephen Curry – have already announced their desire to compete in the Paris Olympic Games in 2024, Trae Younghe deeply wanted to play the World Cup this summer with Team USA.

Ultimately, the Hawks playmaker was not selected. A second missed meeting with the American selection, after the Tokyo Olympics, and a second disappointment in a row this year, after having already missed the All-Star Game while still averaging 26.2 points and 10.2 assists average last season.

“If anyone thinks that I have not been disrespected, then that person is not telling the truth.”reacts Trae Young for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “It’s obvious, but I deal with it. I just want to go out on the field and continue to focus on the most important thing: winning. When I win a title, everything will go in the right direction. I don’t worry about the rest. »

It’s obviously difficult to swallow but it’s also a perfect fuel for motivation. There is nothing better than being “snubbed” to make you want to show off even more. This is Quin Snyder’s opinion.

“It’s really easy for me,” confides the Atlanta coach, asked about how to push his player. “I don’t want him to seek respect, I want him to be respected. He knows it. These instruments for measuring success sometimes give an exaggerated or inaccurate view of things. But if people care about it, then I don’t mind seeing Young realize it. There’s a motivator in that, and that’s great. Afterwards, I don’t think that’s what motivates him the most. »

Like others before him, and despite his great university career, his 5th place in the 2018 Draft or his two participations in the all-star game, Trae Young believes he has often been neglected.

“It’s a bit like the story of my life. Growing up, I played with the highest rated high school player in the country (Michael Porter Jr.) and I told him after every practice that I was first and he was second. I’ve felt disrespected since high school, and I still do. I don’t take this personally. When I meet people, I always have a smile on my face. I just use it, when I’m on the court, as motivation to prove to myself that I’m right and that my work is paying off.” he concludes.
